New and updated edition of the popular book on knitting over 30 contemporary designs inspired by traditional Scandinavian patterns compiled and edited by Margarethe Finseth, designer and brand manager at House of Yarn, Norway.

Handknitting allows the designer an unbounded freedom to create a completely personal expression of their art through the use of colour, embellishments, structure and styling, using only knitting needles and skeins of yarn. In this beautiful book, previously published as Norsk Strikkedesign, a selection of Norway’s foremost knitting designers present over thirty beautiful and unique knitted garments and accessories, all using classic Norwegian-spun wool yarns and based on traditional Norwegian folk patterns.

At the beginning of each collection, meet the high-profiled designers who have worked for the Norwegian knitwear industry and created award-winning collections. Each of their creations is accompanied by stunning photographs of the items as well as the countryside that inspired them. All the pieces include information on the materials used, as well as pattern charts and detailed instructions. In addition, advice is provided on washing and caring for your garments to ensure your knitted design has the perfect, professional finish.

This book presents the very best of contemporary Norwegian knitwear design, drawing on its traditional roots and planting it firmly in the twenty-first century.

Previous edition published as Norwegian Knitting Designs: A Collection from Norway’s Foremost Knitting Designers (ISBN 9781844486861).

Glorious book to transport you to knitting dreamsThe gorgeous cover of this book is just the beginning of a wonderful knitting journey to Norway. The knitting designs are amazing, imaginative and so colorful. As a newbie knitter, I’m not able to knit any of them just yet, but they are in my “knitting bucket list” for sure. A delight!

Beautiful for advanced knittersLike others have said, this is a really beautiful book. It’s definitely for the advanced knitter. As an example, at least one pattern involves steeking. There are 3, maybe 4 patterns here that I will knit. Most of the designs aren’t your typical everyday wear kind of sweater. They are literally works of art. If you want to challenge yourself, this would definitely do that. The charts are tiny but I have bad eyes and making enlarged copies of charts is no big deal. I can’t write to the accuracy of the patterns yet as I haven’t gotten that far but reading through them they seem well written and they assume knowledge of an advanced knitter. The pictures are lovely but they are limited and in order to see the real shape of each piece and the knitted patterns you need to look at the charts.

A marvel to behold. Great norwegian backstories + inspirationsAn incredible, phenomenal resource with such keen detail. A definite keepsake :)Although not everyone is an advanced knitter, these works of wearable art are timeless – the craft and clarity something to aspire to.♡I can honestly say, 1000s of ideas flooded my mind every time i turned a page. And you too, will experience this. The inspiration that launches a thousand ships.I will cherish this precious resource and go back to it often for new inspirations- from nature’s essence, to colour combinations. Absolute genius!

Great book for advanced knittersThe book is great, not too big to carry around. Delivery was on schedule. The book is great for the price because there are not too many patterns. A short history and colors are fantastic.

  5. Agata Obrocka-aleksandrowicz

The charts for knitting the pattern are very hard to read. There are many beautiful sweaters to knit in this book, but the charts are very difficult to read because of their size and the colors used in the charts which are often dark and indistiguishable.
